Best Thesis Paragraph Ever

It was a year ago this past august that I began attending UCF, and it was about a week later I understood why everyone complained about how bad parking is at UCF. Although parking is horrendous this is not the main focus of this paper, it more or less emphasizes a point that will be made in due time. About a week or two after classes started fraternity rush kicked off, and in wanting to meet a lot of people quickly I rushed and joined a fraternity. In doing this I began spending a lot of time in the student union for lunch, hanging out with the current brothers and getting to know them. This is when the problem was realized: not enough seating in the student union. This may seem like an insignificant predicament but it just reinforces the fact that UCF is overpopulated and ill-suited to accommodate all the students it houses. Going back to the previous example of not enough parking here is another problem not enough seats in the library next to power outlets for laptops these shortcomings reinforce the significance of one of the biggest yet unnoticed tribulations at UCF, seating in the student union.

The Hypocrisy Bowl Answers

1. The trend that the article focuses on is the hypocritical nature of the media concerning football/sporting events and the sexual nature of a super bowl halftime show.
2. The author does give an interesting introduction, he points out all the messages football sends to the viewer ex. Men hitting each other, scantily clad cheerleaders, animals selling alcohol in ads.
3. The author does explain the context of the issue, and that is what makes all the controversy seem very hypocritical. The author goes pretty in depth analyzing what happened and having many quotes form primary sources regarding the issue. This signifies that the author intended this to be read by people who wanted to know the whole story and maybe formulate their own opinions.
4. The possible causes of the trend that the author explores could be for one the American people themselves being overly critical, they find it acceptable to have cheerleaders paraded around at football games hardly wearing anything but when during a musical performance a woman’s breast is exposed not even fully the country flips out. People need to take a look at their own views on what is acceptable and not acceptable and realize there isn’t much of a difference.
5. The author illustrates his belief in a similar way to me by poking fun at how hypocritical the people who were upset by this were.
6. The author’s stance is that the culture surrounding football needs a reality check and needs to take a step back and look at themselves and at what is wrong and right in regards to objectifying women.
7. The author sees significance in this event in that the hypocrisy goes far beyond this one event , it’s in every sport it’s in politics and government, and what it’s doing is leaving a culture in his words “naked”

Letter to Jamal

Dear Jamal,

Being here at UCF has been great, I have made a lot of friends and had a lot of good times. But I have also encountered a few things that UCF could improve on. There are 52,000 students attending UCF yet in the student union, where the majority of people go to eat lunch, there are only around 200 seats. This for me and for many other students is a huge problem. I in particular get to campus around 12:30, which happens to be right smack dab in the middle of the lunch rush. Since I am in a fraternity I normally will eat with 2 to 6 guys maybe even more, if I am lucky when I get there someone will already have grabbed a table. Although on most days this is not the case, normally we will get in there get our lunch and then look around and not see a table unoccupied in sight. This has been a problem ever since I have attended UCF last fall and in speaking with some of my friends it’s been going on even longer than that. So we have to wait for someone to get up and then the mad dash begins to get to the open table. The funny thing is there will be at least ten tables that have one student sitting at them, so instead of four people at that table there is only one. The question then becomes how come there are no tables specifically for single or doubles? The answer maybe UCF thinks that people would share the seats, but this does not happen. The thing is Lindsey it is not just the seating in the union its everywhere you look, there is not enough parking nor is there enough seating in the library. UCF Is now the third largest school in the United States and the administration has done nothing to expand. If this trend keeps up there will be very unhappy students at UCF…well more unhappy students at UCF.

Sincerely,
Shaun

How many seats are in the union? 200ish

What’s the busiest time in the union? 11:30-1:00

How many students go to UCF? 52,000

Why aren’t there tables for single or double seating? Administration may assume that people would share tables.

How long has this been a problem? Since fall of ’07 since she’s been going here

How do you know what you know? Because she’s been here since the fall of ’07 and eating in the union

Who are you to the subject? Student who eats in the union.

How is this event connected to others? It’s a recurring pattern, from parking to seating in the library, to seating in the union.

What if things were different? More people would probably eat in the union and less people would be in the walkways.

Why is this important? It shows that UCF is overcrowded and doesn’t have the facilities to accommodate the growing student population.

Issue Development paragraph

It is 12:30 in garage D I’m cruising up to the 2nd floor to try and find a place to park. I do not even have class until 1:30 but I have to get to campus an hour early to be able to get a parking spot. But this commentary isn’t about parking; it is about what I do after I park. I head to the student union to meet some of my fraternity brothers for lunch and wait to head to class. Here is where the problem lies, finding a seat in the union at lunch time. It is terrible there are about 5 maybe 6 guys sometimes even more than that, we get our lunch and walk to the seating area and look around. Not a table open in sight inside or outside, it is just like the parking at UCF not enough of it, yet this problem goes unnoticed. Then the race begins when that one kid who takes up a whole table by his or herself finishes there lunch and begins to stand, you tell the person standing closest to the table “get it, get it”. With any luck you might get the table or maybe someone beat you to it either way something needs to be done in the union to accommodate more people, we are the 3rd largest school in the country now, the administration cannot stand at the status quo the campus has to get larger and the Student Union is where it needs to start.
